B1.2 Third Conditionals
Trzeciego okresu warunkowego używamy do opisywania hipotetycznych wydarzeń — czyli rzeczy, które mogły się wydarzyć, ale się nie wydarzyły.
Alternatywna przeszłość.
Rzeczy, których nie możemy zmienić.
Często używamy go, aby wyrazić:
Żal (Gdybym nie ukradł samochodu, nie trafiłbym do więzienia),
Krytykę (Gdybyś wstał wcześniej, nie przegapiłbyś autobusu!),
Spekulację (Gdyby zarezerwowali z wyprzedzeniem, mogliby znaleźć tańszy hotel)
W języku polskim często tłumaczymy Third Conditional jako:
- „gdybym zrobił…”
- „gdyby ona poszła…”
- „to by się wydarzyło…”
Budowa Third Conditional
Third Conditional tworzymy według schematu:
If + Past Perfect, would have + III forma czasownika
Past Perfect w Third Conditional
W części po „if” używamy czasu Past Perfect:
had + III forma czasownika
Druga część zdania
W drugiej części używamy:
would have + III forma czasownika
Kiedy używamy Third Conditional?
1. Mówienie o żalu
- If I had studied medicine, I would have become a doctor.
- If I had worked harder, I would have earned more money.
2. Krytyka przeszłych decyzji
- If you had listened to me, this wouldn’t have happened.
- If he had driven slower, he wouldn’t have crashed.
3. Wyobrażanie sobie alternatywnej przeszłości
- If we had moved to London, our lives would have been different.
- If she had accepted the offer, she would have worked abroad.

Zdania twierdzące
If Anna had gone to bed earlier, she would have felt better.
If we had booked earlier, we would have found cheaper tickets.
If Tom had saved money, he would have bought a car.
If he had listened to me, he would have avoided problems.
Zdania przeczące
If I hadn’t forgotten my keys, I wouldn’t have been late.
If she hadn’t missed the bus, she wouldn’t have arrived late.
If we hadn’t spent so much money, we wouldn’t have had problems.
If they hadn’t argued, they would have stayed friends.
